- Head of IT - Permanent – Hybrid WFH / Office Split.
Working for an established and leading business within its respective field in the legal sector, the successful Head of IT applicant, will join at the helm of a collaborative and talented IT team consisting of staff in user support, applications support and infrastructure.
The Head of IT’s day-to-day reporting line is to the IT Partner (presently also the chair of the management committee) and less-frequently to the management committee as a whole. The Head of IT is one of a team of core business support function heads and is expected to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all other function heads.
The purpose of the role is to lead and manage all aspects of the IT function; promoting
developments and improvements while ensuring continuity of operations and security of all
data and systems.
Responsibilities will include:
• Managing on a day-to-day basis an IT team that comprises 13 permanent staff members in four sub-teams: user support, training, technical, and apps & development
• Developing plans for the IT function to support and add value to the business; identifying projects with due consideration of the necessary cost and effort; preparing and presenting proposals for Management Committee approval
• Managing and leading projects through to implementation, reporting regularly on Progress
· Maintaining and improving IT aspects of business continuity
• Ensuring appropriate levels of security of the firm’s systems and data
• Developing the documentation of standards and processes for the IT team
• Lead a rigorous but pragmatic change control policy for the firm’s IT systems
• Identifying and implementing improved ways of working
· Ensuring that the IT team as a whole is fully equipped with appropriate skills and knowledge to maintain the applications and infrastructure that support the business, with due consideration to resiliency by avoiding an over-reliance on individuals in certain roles
· Maintaining and developing third party supplier relations, including the negotiation and management of contracts and licensing
· Developing an IT strategy each year for discussion and approval as a key input to the budgeting process and planning for the following calendar and financial year, with the overall aim of supporting the profitable growth and development of the business
· Developing costs for all IT plans, investments and activities and making recommendations to the Management Committee for the main IT inputs to the firm’s annual budget
Key Requirements
• Previous professional experience in a leadership position within IT both coordinating a team and delivering improvements.
• Experience of working in a partnership environment – ideally in the legal sector or with a professional service provider as an alternative
• Up-to-date knowledge of IT in a business environment, including security and data protection issues
• Experience of managing teams
• Qualifications or experience in managing projects
